1st March: Don Bryan - "The Civil War in Hampshire",
Don Bryan is a lecturer in History and Archaeology and has a degree in Archaeology. He is also a Blue Badge Tourist Guide with endorsements for Central/Southern England, Windsor Castle, Winchester and Southampton.
5th April: Jonathan Weeks - "A Blast from the Past"
An Archaeology graduate and collector of medieval instruments from the 1980's, Jonathan Weeks has also been farming in Buckinghamshire and from 1990 became a Gardening Horticulturist in Somerset.
3rd May: D. M. Thomas - "Hard Craft and Heart's Blood-The Writing Life"
D.M. Thomas is an internationally known novelist and poet. He was awarded the Los Angeles Fiction prize for his novel 'The White Hotel', which has been translated into 30 languages; a Cholmondeley Award for poetry and the Orwell prize for his biography of Alexander Solzhenitsyn. His translations of Russian poetry have also been highly praised. He was born in Cornwall, where he nowlives.
7th June: Professor Valerie Isham - "Mathematical models for Epidemics, Networks and Soil Moisture"
A Professor of Probability and Statistics since 1992, Professor Isham was Head of Deptartment 1996/2002 and 2011 and is currently President of the Royal Statistical Society. Her research focuses on the development and application of probabilistic models. Particular areas of application include hydrology (e.g. soil moisture and precipitation) and mathematical biology, e.g. epidemics and the transmission dynamics of infection). She publishes in a range of international journals and is a regualar speaker at conferences and workshops in the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
5th July: Dr. Christopher Fifield - "Life and Voice of Kathleen Ferrier".
Conductor and Music Historian; Author and Broadcaster in the programme "Great Lives"; Editor of the book called "Letter and Diaries of Kathleen Ferrier" published in 2003 in hard back and being re-issued as a larger version in October 2011.
