We have been studying a wide variety of paintings, from prehistoric to current artists’ work. We find that using media from the U3A Resource Centre we have had some lively discussions. No need for previous study.

Groups 1 & 2: The aim is to increase the students‘ understanding of and ability to communicate in the language by the use of live recordings and the spoken word, with reference to grammar and structures where appropriate.
Group 1: We follow a structured course with books and tapes. New members need to possess a basic knowledge of German structure and vocabulary.
Group 2: We work with many different types of material, all selected to stimulate lively conversation. This includes articles, adverts, tapes, photos,pictures, novels etc. We try to speak only German throughout.

The Group meets once a month on different days of the week at various venues. The eating places are usually within easy reach of Lymington. Each person orders and pays for their own meal at the time. All are welcome, either every month or on the odd occasion. The atmosphere is very informal and friendly. Suggestions and new ideas are always welcome.

This is a friendly informal group that meets to listen to predominately Classical Music. Our main aim is to enjoy and discuss the music we listen to and perhaps discover something new which we have not heard before. This Group gets together regularly for ‘behind the scenes’ visits to places not normally open to the general public and for specialist visits to those that are. Some visits are by courtesy of the organization; some may require a fee. Members usually make their own way to the meeting place and where possible car sharing is suggested. A coach is hired when there are sufficient numbers.

We generally get together monthly to pool ideas for future holidays, which may be in Britain, abroad or just a day out. When away the Group may stay together or be completely free to do their own

This Group takes real beginners and others with some Spanish and so has to be flexible. Some private study is expected. We aim to devote approximately half the time to structure (grammar) and the other half to listening, reading and understanding simple texts and, when possible, questions and discussion about them.

This Group meets in a relaxed and informal setting. Numbers vary but a maximum of ten is ideal. The level is intermediate to advanced. Our aim is to communicate in Spanish and improve fluency. We use Castilian Spanish but other forms often crop up. We discuss topics from every day events to Spanish culture and customs. Everyone in the Group has the opportunity to participate.

This will be a self help group of scientific novices exploring and learning together, using DVDs, recommended texts and much discussion.
Shared Learning Project In co-operation with St. Barbe's Museum
We are working with St. Barbe's on various topics with the aim of publishing our findings. They have many documents and information still to be shown and offer their support. We are trying to find out about St. Barbe's family, Wellworthy's and the French soldiers of the eighteenth century and their legacies. If you have a penchant for local history why not join in. Background reading is essential - sources are supplied.

There is an excellent Resource Centre at the National Office of the Third Age
Trust with DVD/CDs for hire. You do not have to be an expert on any of these
topics but those with a similar interest can get together, learn together and make
exciting new discoveries together.
Self-help is the basis for hundreds of U3A groups and provides members with
huge satisfaction. Read ‘U3A News’ and ‘Sources’ for encouragement and
information.
